This thread is full of them. It's named after me after all.

So you're not only the knight of bad endings but also the king of bad jokes?
Please don't mind me. Most of the time I don't make much sense... and mostly I don't even try to.

Green_Tea

I think they just follow me around?

sazabi

a whole entourage of... crap? :D

How where my last days (as if anyone cares)? Watching my PC with it's guts all over the place while I wait for the motherboard to come back from RMA (which will take a month or two, given the time that they took the last time that I needed to do it). Stealing my 11 year old brother's PC for lurking the internets and posting. Going to the doctor to replace the bandages. Taking blood samples, doing ultrasound scans, ECGs and all that. And messing around with my PS2 and DS's backlogs. That while I watch the Portuguese economy collapse and the unemployment rates rising on the news.

I don't youtube. Eats up too much of my 12g monthly quota which could be utilized for manga. Or games. =D

There are still non flatrate i-net contracts around ? wow o_O

In Portugal, even the flatrate internet services have hidden limits that are decided by the ISPs themselves, and you can receive a fine (also decided by them) and get your bandwidth limited to something like dial-up, even if you have a contract for 100Mb/10Mb. Those same limits aren't set in stone. It can be from 50GB to more than 500GB.

So what's an above average speaker system that's 'required' for a sound card? It doesn't need to be 5.1 or anything does it? I'll be happy to be able to listen to nice .flac music.

Are you willing to spend hundreds to thousands of dollars? Then just get some nice PC speakers.

A friend of mine has some Logitech X-530 connected to his onboard sound card and they can make the house shake while maintaining a good sound quality. My  sound system cost me 350€, and it's on the lowest tier of audio receivers and speaker sets, but at the same time, I have a great quality sound for it's price, that beats any computer sound system that I've heard before, and I'm happy with it. Of course that there is always a loss in sound fidelity, but that's what separates mere mortals from audiophiles. And then, there are guys like another friend of mine who has a pair of speakers that cost more than 10000€ and a stereo audio receiver that cost him more than 2000€. I can't remember the brands, but it was all made by hand in Italy. Everything in solid wood, polished and all that.

tl;dr: It can always be better than what you have, it just depends on what you are willing to pay for it.

I also suggested the PSU but he said that wasn't it.

Oh new update. Apparently a stick of RAM was burnt out. Dunno how that affects anything.

I had that happening to me, in 2004. After sending everything from motherboard and RAM to RMA, replacing the PSU and, even, connecting just the basics again, I found out that it was the computer case. I RAGE'd so hard that I kicked it for a few minutes... Only after removing everything that was inside it.

people are willing to spend so much for pc speakers, i only got a cheap set of headphones to use

Green_Tea

Don't get started on headphones, once you start going up, there's no way to come down again. The quality just shits you.

sazabi

well the only upgrade i did was from earphones to headphones :D

Kureha

I have canalphones, headphones, and a cheap 5.1 setup. I wear headphones outdoors, can't stand how it starts getting heatedup when I use it for long hours. I use the canalphones when I go to places where I can't wear headphones.

I prefer using speakers when I'm at home because it's less strain on my ears/head, and when I feel like it, I can jam the volume up and feel the subwoofer pushing air when I'm in the mood.

I love Audio Technica stuff.

sazabi

yep using earphones/headphones for too long is a pain, i would love to use speakers but the only set i have are the cheapos that came with the computer, and they sound worse than my headphones

Green_Tea

I have a set of Shure canal's and a set of WeSC bongo's (?) Something like that. Oh and Logitech Z-*** whatever speakers. Only line-in and USB which sucks.

Mana

In terms of headphones, I only have some old Medusa 5.1, but they are more than enough to destroy my eardrums (the reason why I don't use more than 20% of their output) and they have a pretty good frequency range. I had the chance to test headphones that cost the double and the only difference was the sound volume itself, which was even higher.

Is the quality of headphones really that bad for you ?
I myself am using the Sennheiser HD650 and I'm absolutly satisfied with their sound quality and how comfortable they are to wear ( I can wear em 5h non stop without anything hurting ).

Mana

That's a must in terms of headphones. It doesn't matter how good they sound, if you can't stand wearing them for more than a hour.

Green_Tea

Yeah. I have my music on all the time. And I can't always have them on speaker due to family and stuffs. I have headphones/earphones on all day, pretty much literally. LQ gets pretty grating.

sazabi

don't like earphones, always falling out
