You forget...

Sometimes people commit 'crimes' not because they want to.. but rather, they dont really have a choice...

..

kinda like a starving man with no money, and without anyone that would help him... is pretty much forced to steal food pretty much sooner or later... You know that if possible he wouldnt want to commit the crime and much rather pay for it... its safer and easier too.. But hey... When life dont even give you the lemons...

*shrugs..

... Well okay.. maybe that example was alittle too extreme...
But its more or less works on that same principle...

Can't justify piracy (or stealing) in any way, shape, or form, regardless of circumstance; if we're talking about morality. On the other hand it's human nature to take and get what we want; the method (legally, illegally) depends on the disposition of the individual.

So i'd say companies are in the right to stop distribution of their product illegally lets face it, translations lead to more piracy than actual sales, unless it's done officially and even then there's still some loss, but I guess that goes for anything that can be digitally distributed.

Kureha

I just prefer to spend my money on things that I can have sit infront of me. New hardware? Sure! New software? Meh... Same thing with the anime industry, manga? Sure! Figurines? Sure! Anime? Nah... I'm just a messed up individual.

onemanga is being taken down for being the biggest... MT for having mature stuff... the jap seem to be cracking down in general but there's no way they can shut down all the scanlator sites... it's like trying to kill all the mice in the world using a couple elephants...

Kureha

Manga streaming sites are hardly scanlator sites, they are just like youtube.

inferno_flamex

Seems to me like the companies are trying to get.. .. like.. in the old days... 'The Iron Curtain'.. on pretty much anything they could find to prevent/stop it from getting 'fan-edited'...

Nothing gets in... Nothing gets out... (Unless received very special permission from the head hancho himself)
..

Well.. Not that much surprising actually.. Since.. That's what the Japanese were doing back in their samurai days...

Ah come on, manga sites like onemanga were ludicrous.

It was just way too easy to get to the stuff you wanted, I can see why publishers went mad over it. I am sure publishers know that they can't stop scanlations, but taking those huge sites down will maybe help them to get quite a few guys to buy the actual manga.

On another note, I never liked onemanga and co anyway, stupid low quality stuff they hosted T_T! Always had to lurk my manga or check the scanlations groups' homepage.

Provided they could actually understand those mangas...
I myself do not promote the use of online browsing either, despite how i sound.. I guess.. >_> Do i really sound like im supporting these things? I dono..

But for example... The latest scans of Bleach (okay maybe once again not a good example since its 'licensed'..)... These stuffs are untranslated as far as I know... And the thought of actually BUYING a manga that u dont understand...

Its like buying a child's picturebook for the price of a novel (plus the import fares and stuffs...)

There's good and bad i supposse... But taking down the whole of OneManga is like taking down the whole of youtube methinks... >XDDD

laplacian

Bleach is a very bad example. In due time we will have those chapters officially translated and released. If you checked the most popular mangas on those sites you will end with the usual suspects, naruto/ bleach/ one piece/ claymoe etc etc, of which all are licensed and are being released in the USA ( and they are as up to date as it's possible volume wise ).
There are a few "niche" mangas which aint licensed, and I am sure no one would really mind having them all on a site ( apart from japanese publishers maybe ), but I am not confident those would justify having their own online reading site ( there are probably more naruto hits per week than half of the unlicensed mangas on onemanga in a week ).
Plus you also have to look at the revenue, an online viewing site eats quite some bandwith. I don't know if you can get back the cost just by having not so popular unlicensed mangas on your site.

Mana

But it's those same licensed mangas that gave them all that revenue which also got them into trouble. I doubt that you would see sites like those being hunted just because they contained unlicensed stuff, even though that could eventually happen, but under a lower priority. It's a case of "They can't live with them, but they also can't live without them."

Green_Tea

Kinda wishes for a multiquote function.

Yeah, that's pretty messed up, especially if I'm the same. If I'm gonna spend money on something it should be tangible.

So uh. Back to ddl/torrenting manga's huh. And I do agree with the whole LQ shits. That always pissed me the fuck off, how they raced each other to get the fastest scans rather than the best ones. Still, I want a trustworthy manga compile-site rather than hanging around 50 different IRC/scanlator forums.

Can we compile here Kureha?

Kureha

#131
Compile what? I don't have a platform for hosting manga if that's what you're getting at...
The line that the server is running on also doesn't have the output to stream manga online. It's FTTB but it's only 2mbps symmetrical.

If you want a board to post links to manga, I can open one.

invictus

Opening a board with links could be risky... I mean evil empire got taken down back then... so ya... it's back up now but sometimes their link just hold bad quality stuff, lol.

Green_Tea

We've got an anime-manga board so that's fine, just thought permission should be requested before attempting link postings for HQ manga's.

I'll look in my collection to see what good ones I have.

laplacian

You can get pretty much every manga from Lurk, so hosting direct links is kind of a pointless idea imho ( though I can't connect to lurk since 2 days, hope it's not connected to the manga site take downs >_<)
