I might just play it japanese. It doesn't sound too hard, and I want to see Arcuied.

How can someone so bland possess so many fans?

I just got home with it, I managed to snag the last Limited Edition they had left at Gamestop. I'll post my impressions after playing. As cliche as thinking Archer is awesome is, well, he is, so I'm going to be playing as a male MC with Archer as my Servant.

Tropes are not bad.

Still considering if I should add some more fluffy hearts!

There aren't enough fluffy hearts.

Yeah I gotta get that fixed. I've had a few surprises today so I'm gonna work on them later. But the overall design and size is fine?

And yeah, Hisui and Kohaku. Who else better to be our maids? Kureha can be Hisui and Mana can be Kohaku =d

I'm not a scheming maid, but I like her and as so I'll let it pass.

I haven't been around to mistreat you because I got my hands on a friend of a friend's PS3 which was lost in transit on my home. Unfortunately, it can't be downgraded to 3.55 through any of the available methods, so I'll have to entertain myself with Final Fantasy XIII until I have to give it back. The constant grinding is a shame, but the characters are more likable than VIII and X's casts put together. Not even Auron could save them.

First impressions: it couldn't rip off of Persona/Shin Megami Tensei (albeit with a heavy dose of Fate/Stay Night obviously) harder if it was actually an official SMT/Persona title - it's divided into dungeon crawling and school sections like Persona 3 and 4, and has a pretty heavy cyberpunk thing going on like mainline SMT games. This is actually good because those are about the only JRPGs I can stand. I'm pretty sure the female Servants, and an Archer/female MC, have romance subplots or something though I'm not far enough in to confirm this firsthand.

The battle system is a little frustrating, just because it's hard to predict six consecutive enemy actions without at least two of their moves already shown to you (since it's a pretty straightforward rock/paper/scissors system except for special abilities, of which I currently have none starting out). This might be more fun as I progress and unlock more abilities though. Aside from the Servant fighting with attack/break/guard + special abilities, you can also support your Servant with spells.

I wouldn't recommend playing it in Japanese, since it's pretty text heavy. I'm pretty sure Nasu actually wrote it too since the style is so reminiscent of his (the opening credits said he was the "scenario designer" I think, and I'm not sure exactly how much input that means he has but like I said, due to the writing style I'm guessing that means a-fucking-lot). Also some of the usual terms from mirror-moon's translations are different, though not all of them ("heroic spirits" are now "legendary souls" for example).

Just got home so i'll finally get to fire it up in a bit. Why not go with the FMC & Archer? I think the dialogues would be better, won't know til I try though. Will play with Saber 1st then Caster and it I'm not into Skyrim I'll give Archer a go with FMC.

Kureha

I only liked the Arcueid before she lost her hair.

Mana

cyberpunk

I stopped reading there.

But Mana, that's the draw isn't it? I mean sure, I'm a Hisui/Sacchin fan, but Arc was a bland character among those other psycho-delinquents. Arc was so simple. All dere.

laplacian

From the stuff I read on their forums every servant got a romance setting to a varying degree. Apparently Saber + Caster are also Bi.

I'm not sure what the right word is, exactly, but it's the closest I could think of since all the Masters are actually the virtual avatars of people in the "real" world and the school that forms the primary setting, not to mention the arenas, are obviously a virtual world as well. I believe they said it was some sort of reality marble being sustained by the Holy Grail - it's a mix of technology and magic.

re: Arc I think she's boring as a character and love interest, but otherwise I think she's pretty badass, thinking of her more like a force of nature than just a mere vampire.

Also I picked a male MC because I thought it would be interesting to not have a romance for once. Plus honestly, Archer? Romance? That'd just be awkward. I'll probably replay it with male MC/Saber and female MC/Archer if I like the game enough though.

@ Fate Extra
Damn rider was cool >_< too bad she wasn't pickable.

And I'm playing with caster, she's pretty fun tbh =p Though she feels really weak, hope she picks up in endgame and becomes godmode like all mage characters.

Mana

Yossarian, the thing was Shin Megami Tensei "being cyberpunk". The third one has nothing that remotely resembles the genre and the first one's closest thing to that would be the software that makes the characters able to interact with demons, which is a trademark of the series since Megami Tensei for the Famicom.

I can't get it, but to each his own.

Green_Tea

Ahhhhhh LUMINOUS ARC. Why are you so good? It's not like you have amazing gameplay or anything.

Sometimes explaining yourself gets yourself across more clearly than being a douche. There's other similarities with SMT though - for example you go to a chapel to upgrade your Servant. There's a bright blue moon shining over said chapel that really brings to mind the Cathedral of Shadows with a full Kagutsuchi in Nocturne. The protagonist also seems to be largely a "blank", though this isn't obviously only an SMT thing it does help reinforce the similarities.

I never said that there weren't similarities between Fate/Extra and a Shin Megami Taisen, but that you where claiming that the series usually is cyberpunk, but if you take that as being "a douche", better for you. I couldn't care less about what you think.

Anyone know where to get GBA roms ddl? It's been a while, but I've just gotten the GBA emulator for my PSP so I was hoping to get some Summon Night or Megaman Battle Network in.
