You won't get paid by google, since your site violates google TOS ( adult content, piracy) - after you reach 100$ in your account you will be manually reviewed by one of google employees and your account closed without being paid. You might want to try adbrite/blacklabelads but they have terrible rates ( i got paid 100$ from them once, but it took 3,5 milion impressions to get it, so i took ads off as soon as i reached minimum payout ammount ). Other ad networks that would both accept your forum and offer somehow decent rates have too obtrusive ads to even consider them if you care about your community. Donations should be the way to go for you - even if you can't accept donations directly, by putting button onsite, you can just write your paypal adress so that people can manually send money. You might also check chipin.com, but i never used them, so i have no idea if it works.

As for spammer problems - they are using Xrumer ( http://www.botmasterru.com/ ) - really advanced bot, that can register on forums, confirm accounts with built-in pop3 client and post messages/send PW automatically. Don't know about SMF but in vbulletin it can be blocked quite easily by adding additional question during registration ( for example "two times three = ?" ) - people running those bots care only about quanity - they don't review each forum on their list to find out answers for questions - they can get 200 more forums in same time. by adding security question like that you should cut spam down by like 95%
