Original Title: アルトネリコ2 世界に響く少女たちの創造詩(メタファリカ)
Translated Title: Ar tonelico 2: The Girls' Metafalica that Echoes to the World
Western Title: Ar Tonelico II ~Melody of Metafalica~
Developer: Gust (http://www.gust.jp/)
Release Date: 2007/10/10

Description:Taking place in the desolate land of Metafalss, a tiny continent built upon the rim of a tower much like the first game's Ar tonelico, it revolves around two opposed factions: the ruling Grand Bell, which has recently declared war against the Goddess Frelia; and the Sacred Army, who believe that the Goddess enables Metafalss to exist. This ire against the Goddess stems from a failure centuries past at creating Metafalica, a paradise-like land spoken of in legend, which was interrupted by a vicious attack by her defenders. In addition to civil war, Metafalss is ravaged by outbreaks of I.P.D, a Reyvateil-specific disease which causes the victim to execute song magic uncontrollably and do much damage to herself and her surroundings.
Protagonist Croix Bartel, a knight of the Grand Bell, is regularly tasked with stopping the harm done by those afflicted. It is while on a mission to contain one such outbreak that Croix, together with his adopted sister Cocona, is put in quite a different situation. The Holy Maiden Cloche, the Reyvateil who leads the Grand Bell in the war, has come under attack by the Sacred Army. He is soon entrusted with protecting her while they escape. While attempting to hide from the Sacred Army, they encounter Luca, another Reyvateil who has known Croix since childhood.
Croix is soon to discover that neither the Grand Bell nor the Sacred Army are what they seem- and nor are Cloche or Luca. Unable to trust anyone except each other (and sometimes not even that), he and his companions struggle along their own path to thwart those who would manipulate them, discover the truth about the Goddess Frelia, and achieve the seven hundred year old dream of Metafalica.

Ar Tonelico II: Melody Of Metafalica USA UNDUB (c) BANPRESTO/GUST
hacked by somebody special
-- Information --
Origin: USA+Japan DVD(S): 1
Released: January 23rd, 2009 Format: ISO
Platform: Playstation 2 (PS2) Files: 76 * 50MB
-- Description --
Here's a treat for those of you who love Japanese RPGs but can't
stand the inept localization. This UNDUB has the USA english text
with the *complete* Japanese spoken dialog.
Enjoy this game the way it was meant to be played!
-- Release Notes --
The USA release of this game lacks over half the voice work found
in the Japanese game. Apparently NIS were lazy to provide even
bad english voices for most of it and felt a need to cut out the
same amount of Japanese voices.
Undoing the hatchet job required a moderately agonizing amount of
analysis. Be glad I liked the game enough to bother even after
finishing the JP version twice. :)
Movies are untouched except for the Dolby Digital version of the
intro movie which NIS broke. It sounds so nice I am compelled to
include a proper copy.
So now the game has a complete set of Japanese voices for events,
battles and movies. Remember to set the language to Japanese.
And don't blame me for any of the broken localization issues this
game is full of!

It was kinda fun how I instantly dumped Cloche when Jakuri showed up >_<
I also went for Shurelia in the first game.. Wonder if I'm gonna go for the third reyvateil in AT 3, too ...
Hohoho, that was exactly what I did. I never went past her L5 Cosmosphere because I was waiting for

Plus Jakuri sounds way more pleasant than Mir ( first thing I associate with Mir is some evil sapce alien >_< ).

I kinda played them one after the other, maybe a week in between both games.
There were some months between each game, but it was because of her that I couldn't wait anymore for the retranslation project to be finished. Damned artbook!

Is playing game 1 required to play game 2 (in order to be not left completely clueless)?
Just finished dling AR2 and AR1 (later from another source) and AR1 somehow tells me it's not a correct Disk, so I wonder if i 'have' to play the first one in order to understand most of the stuff which happens. (haven't played AR2 yet...)
Right now I'm just too lazy to dl the other one, too...
Especially after half an hour trying to start AR2... which got CD-Reading error all the time... then I tried starting Atelier Iris 2, which started without problems, went back to AR2, only errors, tried starting AR1, which wasn't recognized as PS2-Disk, than accidently startet AR2 again and what happens? It suddenly works. o_O

not really theres a few refrences to Ar 1 in Ar 2, and some of the characters apear good example is the Mir/Jacqli who is the starting anataganist in the first game but becomes an ally in this one.... im pretty certain she shows up in 3 as well.... she is awsome, her personality is the best outa the 3 girls
also this game is ALOT better than 1.... they really nailed it
Mule is love!
Spoiler
She is both the starting antagonist of the first game, and the final boss who wants to kill the entire human race.
You'll like her even more if you play the first game. Other than knowing/understanding her better, you don't need any previous knowledge to play the second game.

Burning, laser and/or media problems?
I'm actually interested in this but I'm too lazy to setup my PS2 burn discs and go look up the codes for exploder.

Burning, laser and/or media problems?
Good to know, than I think I'll skip the first one or play it some time later.
About the problems... didn't burn the DVDs, just mounted them, either on a virtual drive and on the physical drive, so disc-errors shouldn't be the issue (although it said there where disc reading errors). Whenever I tried to play the AR2 disc without mounting it it somehow said my PC wasn't good enough.
With AI2 it worked both, mounted and ISO. With AR1 it didn't work mounted, so I tried some different settings, mainly BIOS. Then wanting to try the ISO of AR1 instead of the mounted disc I switched to ISO and forgot, that it automatically restarts and the AR2-ISO was selected... no warning this time and AR2 worked perfectly. And it still works after the first night... *happy*

you know this is the one time i actualy like the english dub.... if only becouse it made me laugh my ass off for the whole game.... this is a prime example.... what an amazing battle cry before he thrusts in from behind...
I heard the first two seconds and stopped the video. No, just no!
Man, this game is addicting... even so I don't like hectic battle systems...
Still played 11 hours straight...
Which reminds me that I probably should use my time more efficient than gaming all day...
As for the english dub...
I agree with Mana, although it is quite funny.
The OST, Hymmnos Concerts and Drama CDs were added to the first post.
Just to let everyone know, there was a bug in the last boss fight i heard. I found a patch for it a while ago, but deleted it after i patched mine.
This version already contains asmodean's Raki fix.
Also, Raki isn't the final boss.
Ok. I once looked and only saw that there supposedly was this Raki-bug (as I'm not there yet I don't even know who or what Raki is, i just assumed he'd be the final boss). Maybe there were other bugs I didn't see while searching.
I had a previous copy without the fix and any optional battle against Raki ended crashing after 3 turns, when she used her best attack, so I can confirm the bug, and that's the only boss battle that crashes the game. The final boss doesn't have any problem like that.
This is Raki: (http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/3134/artbook49.jpg)
I had to beat Raki without any patches on my original disc T_T
Spent ages till i finally managed to kill her before she used her broken move >_>
I knew that was possible anda there is even a way to have an endless turn, stopping her from ever attacking, but I didn't bother doing it.
this entire fight for me was, sing..... SYNCRONITY CHAIN!!! FIRE HUGE VAGINA LAZOR BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM *dead* i didnt even know there was a bug....
this entire fight for me was, sing..... SYNCRONITY CHAIN!!! FIRE HUGE VAGINA LAZOR BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM *dead* i didnt even know there was a bug....
Yep didnt know there was a bug either
I was talking about the optional battles against her, where she gets stronger for each time that you defeat her. That's where the game crashes. You don't have enough time for a Synchronity Chain before the game crashes, so you missed them.
EDIT: I finished the game the first time without fighting her again, because I wasn't in the mood for finishing her off in 3 turns, for 15 times, unlike the obligatory first battle against Deus on Xenogears, when played on an emulator or the PS2. I had to finish it, before the game crashed during it's best attack.
EDIT2: A video of the bug
Ar tonelico II US - Raki battle bug (optional battle) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ka2rdNxkbIU#)
aprently PAL version was fixed... hense why I was able to pull off a Schain, shame about the bug was expsecting something lol, like it to crash at exactely the point of impact doing exactely 1337 damage and freezing in a kinda soundloop way before your playstation blows up.... cant lie im pretty disapointed
NISA fixed it for the PAL version, but didn't even bother replacing it with fixed copies on the US, because "it's possible to win that battle through other means", as in, cheating.

does the voice actor have any idea what he's saying? I didn't bother with the dub but now I might change my mind.
Suffering through a dub just for a battle quote... I admire your dedication.
The graphics on this thing is horrid when running on emulator... but PS2... my god would I miss save states...
In any case, I realized there wouldn't be those black boxes if I stopped using the hardware setting so it's fine now... however, it makes the game laggy in some scenes =-=" but at least battles run well. But still... bad resolution...
My dedication is that of a collector... I must get every item, scene, etc... especially when there's an extra menu.
And what does that have to do with "MAXIMUM PENETRATION lulz"?
And what does that have to do with "MAXIMUM PENETRATION lulz"?
Let me guess... nothing?
Maybe he just wanted to post his thoughts about the emulator, the game and himself about games.
Or do you have to stay on topic at a kind of off topic discussion as of late?
If you read my interventions on most topics, you could see that I care less than most about staying on-topic, but I was talking about this:
Suffering through a dub just for a battle quote... I admire your dedication.
My dedication is that of a collector... I must get every item, scene, etc... especially when there's an extra menu.
Then maybe his dedication forces him to "collect" all the battle quotes, even the english ones, so he can blissfully (or not) remember he got 'em all.
A Gotta Catch'em All mentality.
feel like playing pokemon now...
Nah, I gave up on pokemon >_> there's no end to it. I just appreciate the effort people went to in order to create a game with all the little details. It's interesting to see the differences in the japanese and the english... even if I don't understand japanese, I've watched enough subbed anime to detect inconsistencies... and even if I didn't there's some obvious transliterations...
Reviving dead topics yaaay!
Anyway, found this link to some interesting alternative cosmosphere stories http://ar-ciel.org/uploads/miz/tks/2avs/ (http://ar-ciel.org/uploads/miz/tks/2avs/) . So if anyone wants some more Ar Tonelico 2, there you go.
Anon has been translating that for A Reyvateil's Melody.
