do you have the volume 5?

@ rock regala - What volume 5? Volume 5 hasn't been released in Japan yet, so there is obviously no English translation of volume 5 available for anyone to upload. According to the site linked below, which you can use for yourself to track/check on forthcoming releases and ETA for this novel, and other Japanese LN's and manga, volume 5 of the LN is "expected to be released around November 30, 2022" (Google Translate). But be aware that that date has already changed more than once, as IIRC it was September 30th at one point, then October 30th, and now November 30th. Although I'd imagine all parties involved would be trying to get volume 5 published either while the anime adaptation is airing, or at the latest, when it ends.

Although even when volume 5 does get released in Japan, IMO you're looking at a good 6 months before there is an English translation of it. Maybe even (a lot) longer, because AFAIU the initial publishing agreement with other publishers. ie. Yen Press, usually only covers existing volumes at the time of the agreement, with a new/additional agreement being required for any subsequent volumes that are released. And while these new agreements can be straightforward, if the value of this IP changes significantly, such as due to the anime adaptation being very popular, then that could significantly increase the price of licensing future volumes, and delay any agreements being made due to negotiations over the (increased) licensing price.

If you've seen any recent comments around the net about volume 5 being available in English, then they're likely referring to volume 5 of the manga, which Yen Press are due to release in a few days time (or simply people confusing the manga with the LN, and thinking that volume 5 of the LN is available now/soon).

tl;dr: There is no volume 5 of the LN yet, although it is due to be released in Japan within the coming months. But IMO, any English translation of it is likely the best part of a year away yet.

Sharing is caring

Hello! Never underestimate the power of the fandom for a popular series! The fan translation for Volume 5 has been out for a few days now:

I can't really testify for the quality of the translation, especially condidering the speed at which it was released, but it seems good from what I read, so check it out if you don't want to wait any longer.

I compiled a pdf of Gadgetized Panda's fan translation of volume 6 for myself today, but I assume there's probably a few others in this community who would be interested in such a pdf given the popularity of this series, and therefore:

PDF v2 (if you just want to read) Please re-download if you download my original upload. As this v2 contains the missing prologue.

Zip v2 (if you want to makes edits or create your own pdf/epub etc) Please re-download if you download my original upload.

Translation Site
https://gadgetizedpanda.com/category/personal-project/kagejitsu/

The labels on the links should be fairly self explanatory. The zip file contains the source text file from which I created the pdf, along with a zip of the illustrations that are posted on the translator's site which I used in the pdf. The pdf itself is also in the zip. Those who want epubs can use the source file to create an epub, and those who want to make edits or change the font I used etc can use to make themselves a new pdf. And if anyone wants to offer the community epubs or alternative pdfs using my source then feel free to. Since it's always good for people to have more options.

And I just want to reiterate this for absolute clarity. This is a fan translation of volume 6, and NOT the officially translated version from Yen Press, which there is no release date for yet. Or volume 5 for that matter. And all credit for the translation goes to Gadgetized Panda. How they translated it this fast I don't know, as it doesn't appear to be a machine translation. Although I could be wrong on that.

Notes
I made a few edits to the text, mainly to correct obvious missing words, or reword the odd sentence that didn't make sense from an English reading perspective. Although very few such edits were made because very few were needed. which is why it doesn't feel like a machine translation. But for some reason there were dozens of sentences of dialogue that ended in commas instead of full stops, and which seemed to be clear punctuation errors to me. Like as if the person doing the typing kept mistakenly pressing the , key instead of the . key. So I've corrected all those because I found it too annoying to read it as it was. And as I mentioned at the start, I created this pdf for myself.

Some of the opening illustrations on the translator's site have been shrunk down from landscape to portrait to fit on the translator's site. I did a quick search to try and find a set of originals, but didn't find any. Which isn't too surprising given this volume's only been out for a few days. And I didn't try to convert them back to landscape either. I haven't made this pdf for archiving or best quality because the Yen Press version, if/when it appears, will fill that role, hence I'm not to bothered myself with having the best set of illustration possible. And as mentioned, if you find any and want to replace the ones I used then you can just swap them out in the source file.

Edit: Updated the links with a v2 which includes the missing prologue.

Hey fajar it seems that your EPUB that you posted doesn't work

Ted Crilly

Sorry everyone, I made a huge fuck up with my original upload of volume 6 because I forgot to include the prologue. Doh!!! I've updated the links now with a v2 that includes the missing prologue, so please re-download it if you downloaded by original upload.

I originally started reading this on the translator's site and with no intention of making a pdf for myself. But then the annoying issue with the commas I mentioned, along with the translation site being offline all the time (due to the surge in traffic going by a message on the site), made me decide to create a pdf for myself. Which I did, starting at chapter 1, because I had already read the prologue. And then when I finished compiling and reading it all, I posted it here for others who might be interested. All the while completely forgetting about the prologue. DOH!!! And it was only a nagging feeling overnight combined with checking it again today with fresh eyes that I realised my blunder.

Hope nobody started reading volume 6 yet from my download, as I can't see how the start would make much sense without the prologue. And my apologies to anyone who has.

Oh and I've changed the name of Cid's friends to Skel and Po to match their names in the official translation and the anime. This translation had their names as Hyoro and Jaga, which are the Romaji translations of their names from Japanese, but I thought a lot of people might wonder who the hell Hyoro and Jaga were without the name change.
