Description:
Ar tonelico takes in the region of Sol Ciel, upon a huge tower that rises above a sea of deadly plasma that swallowed the surface world in a disaster centuries past. This is where the series gets its name: Ar tonelico is the name of that tower. As well as humans, the tower is home to a race of human-like artificial beings named Reyvateils, who can communicate with the tower by singing songs to cast magic.

The story starts in the city of Platina, during an outbreak of enemy creatures called Viruses. The protagonist, a Knight of Elemia named Lyner Barsett, goes to investigate with fellow knight Ayatane, and the tower administrator, Shurelia. Unfortunately, they rapidly discover that the Viruses are able to turn intangible, rendering normal defeat impossible. Shurelia therefore sends Lyner on a quest for the only thing that can help them: the Hymn Crystal Purger. Taking an airship, he travels down to the Wings of Horus, the floating continent that surrounds the tower. More accurately, he crashes thanks to an attack from a dragon, which complicates matters extremely.

In the process of searching for the crystal and a way to repair his airship, he meets and teams up with a number of people, including two Reyvateils. First is the shy Aurica, who healed his injuries after his crash. Second is the more outspoken Misha, actually his forgotten childhood friend. But there's one problem - Misha looks much younger than she should be. Aside from those two are the wanderer Jack, the local church knight Radolf, and the airship grathmelder Krusche. As the story progresses, Lyner and his comrades not only try to find the Hymn Crystal and fix Lyner's airship, but discover the reason for Misha's youthful appearance, and the source of the recent Virus outbreak.

The battle system was boring so I never got far in this one. Finished the 2nd though, I should probably get through the other endings at some point.

What? You didn't like to use a single buff the entire time while spamming the Attack command?

I know right, what could I be thinking!? The awesome battles accompanied by random encounters, how could I not play for hours on end?

Does someone know a good emulator?

PCSX2 is a good enough PS2 emulator. Though I used it only once for Sakura Wars,which was a dual layer disc, since I have a PS2 anyway.

PS2 emulation is still a bit buggy, and slow...

tempted to get this, but not too confident my relic of a computer can handle the ps2 emulation

one of my fav games.... I just love GUST games in general mainly due to the music, there albums are amazing, one thing to note mana khemia series I thought personelly to be more fun but its everyones own standards.... there realing there PS3 game in europe this friday im looking forward to it

Exec Harmonius from the first game and the Method Repleika from the second one are terrific pieces. I still listen to them here and now, defo the highpoints of the game OST for me.

I'll have to agree, they are pretty powerful, especially when associated with their meanings in the story's context. Also, the moment that EXEC_SUSPEND/. is played turns that scene into even more of a tear jerker.

I enjoy Heave Ho - Half Off sale from the full game OST its a very fun piece of BGM, i have all 4 of the albums in physical disc form (hymnos, OST, anime special respectively) I had to admit the 2nd games OST is my fav from the series, the 3rd has some good tunes but they tend to have a wider genere style than the other two games

even if you dont download the games, do download the music... it really is that good

I was so disappointed with the 3rd game's OST that I deleted it after I heard all of it. That couple of good themes couldn't save it for me.

Finished dling game and emulator however I've never setup or used an emulator before and quick search couldn't turn up a tutorial on using PCsX2.  Wud some kind soul mind listing for me the steps I need to take install the game with emulator and where do I put the bios files in the emulator pack?

I'm running winVista with intel core2 which I assume is enough to run the game even if it's not real fast.

The graphics for this game look great so hope I can play it.

You'll also need a graphix card. Ram, and a PS2 BIOS. You can either load your own ps2 bios or find one online, there isn't really that much to setup anyway.

A Core2 will run PCsX2 better than a comparable AMD because of the extra SSE support, but it'll really depend on overall system specs.

I don't use a PS2 emulator, so I can't help you.

For those who are unsure, PCSX2 recommended system requirements are:

Intel core 2 duo @ 3.2Ghz
(PCSX can only utilise 2 cores so more than that will not give any performance boost, though higher clock speeds will, AMD Phenoms run well but not Athlons)
8800gt or better (any non-integrated DirectX 10 compliant graphics card should suffice)
1GB ram for Linux/XP, 2GB for Vista and 7

PCSX2 will run poorly on all laptops even if they are designed for gaming.

out of intrest is there problems with DX10 cards? iv got twin 480GTX's which are direct X11 so im guessing id get even more if thats true

also FAIL got an i7 so im intel all the way ¬_¬ guy who makes this needs to work on the intel cores.... theres alot more of em out there than AMD's

You surely speak without any knowledge of what you are talking about. PCSX2 has always worked better on Intel, until the Phenoms were released (SSE4 and all that), which means that people with AMD CPUs had to wait to have the same performance as those who have Intel, because the emulator was worked on for Intel CPUs. It doesn't mean in any way that they are pro-AMD or whatever.

Phenom II doesn't support full SSE4.1 SSE4.2 only SSE4a which will have an impact.

I know that i7 has further instructions, but in practical uses they still have to make any difference.

No idea what the hell you're talking about...  It works just fine on Intel cores.  And if you mean Intel CPUs have more cores than AMD, no they don't (it's just hyperthreading).

PCSX2 isn't going to get true multithreading support any time soon.  The current "multithreading" just splits the Emotion Engine off to 1 thread, and the Graphics Synthesizer to another.  True multithreading will require the rewriting of a significant portion of the code, which they can't be fucked doing right now.  And by the time that happens (if it ever does), you probably got a new faster CPU anyway.

I probably sound stupid but is there supposed to be boxes around the sprites faces... I don't think it's lined up right for me... or did I fail to set up the graphics plugin?

mmm... strange, the bug shows up a lot less with native resolution but still shows up... a bit annoying.
