Title: Recommendations topic.
Post by: Green_Tea on August 18, 2010, 07:51:49 PM
Anime, Manga, H-games recommendations.

I myself know I have downloaded shit only to be dissapointed. Well, cry no more because now we have a community full of people who have tried and cried.

Ad voice aside, the point is if you're not sure about a certain anime/manga/H-game/VN/game/girl/condom/or pot plant you can ask here and I'm sure someone else will have experience in it. The thing is, people don't know what you like, so when replying or posting, make sure you specify what you like, or you specify why you like it.

Of course there should also be an Obscure Informations request thread, but I'm not sure anyone would use it besides me, so I might just keep to my own bloated thread.

****

So to start off, my friends have been recommending Angel Beats, Amagami SS, Darker than Black and High School of the Dead.

I personally like shows like Ookami-san to shichinin no nakamatachi, Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin, and reading stories like Haruhi, School Rumble, and Kimi no Iru Machi.

Drama and comedy I guess, would be the main draws. Romance is a necessity too. Comedy by itself gets old after a few eps, and drama by itself is way too dry.

Out of those I've dropped school rumble because of the repeated getting no where storyline, and avoided Kimi no Iru Machi because of implied NTR and drama, the rest are decent.
Title: Re: Recommendations topic.
Post by: Green_Tea on August 18, 2010, 11:03:35 PM
Oh come on Kureha. School Rumble had one of the best storylines I've ever read, and the comedy in it was top rate. I mean, ok, story-wise it'll be never be Haruhi, or Fate, or Tsukihime. But it was a comedy first and foremost, with a smattering of story. At least things progressed once in a while, especially character development. Which is more than can be said of many a story.

Oh and I guess Seo Kouji's works have a huge-load of NTR/Drama. Yeah, those are pretty hard to recommend, you either like them or you don't.

****

Anyway, what's Amagami like? I mean I might understand the appeal for a non VN playing otaku, but for the rest of us won't it be overly cliche? Is it even funny like Working! was?

I haven't played the game but the anime is pretty enjoyable.
Title: Re: Recommendations topic.
Post by: Zyibis on August 19, 2010, 11:59:46 AM
Amagami SS is enjoyable, I like how each of the main heroines have their own story in the anime. Each heroine gets 4 episodes and then it starts over with different events, given you a fresh feel to the anime.

As for a recommendation, how about Full Metal Alchemist? The manga had a nice ending to it and the 2003 anime was pretty well done. I loved how the movie fit right in with the anime giving it a decent ending. Though I haven't had a chance to watch the 2009 anime, I hear it is based more on the manga then the first anime.
Title: Re: Recommendations topic.
Post by: Green_Tea on August 19, 2010, 01:22:40 PM
Oh yeah, I need to finish that manga.

It's not all that appealing really. Not enough romantic drama to draw enough of my interest to go searching for downloads. And I'd want to collect it. Blehhhhh.

****

Oh I might watch Amagami then.

...why do I get the feeling I will be the only one ever using this dump of a thread?

People recommending FMA? I will pretend that I didn't read that.

Oh what about D-Gray Man?
Title: Re: Recommendations topic.
Post by: Sazabi on August 19, 2010, 06:52:05 PM

Oh what about D-Gray Man?

alternative to bleach /naruto? long running series with heaps of characters. although personally its been a while since i read it but, the last impression it gave me was that the "good guys" seem to be fighting a losing battle.

personally i like the amagami format, since each female gets a story rather than a single story harem show

How about Until Death Do Us Part (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=4111)?
Title: Re: Recommendations topic.
Post by: Green_Tea on August 28, 2010, 09:56:22 PM
I got pretty bored of that.

I mean, sure super sharp blind swordsman and oracle loli is nice. But I guess the slow releases did me in.

I liked Blade of the Immortal though.
Title: Re: Recommendations topic.
Post by: Zyibis on August 29, 2010, 12:06:47 AM
Ya the slow releases can put you off, and now that they are unable to get any more raws at the moment it will be even more slow with releases.

I haven't read Blade of the Immortal yet, but I think I'll check it out.

Do you like Bakuman?
Title: Re: Recommendations topic.
Post by: Green_Tea on August 29, 2010, 01:18:49 AM
Yeah. Not as much as One Piece. But I guess it's nice. Very tame after Death Note success.

blade of the immortal was good for a while
however i stopped reading not long after manji (?) forgot name got captured and they were trying to find out his immortality secret / make their own immortal men, felt that it was starting to drag, and not as good as the beginning
Senkogu Rance, Eien no Aselia, Daibanchou - Big Bang Age ?
Title: Re: Recommendations topic.
Post by: Green_Tea on October 01, 2010, 03:15:55 PM
Gadget Trial too really. But I think you're more looking for action rpg rather than tactical. As a technicality, tactical RPGs generally denote turn based systems as opposed to TtT's pseudo real time system. Although it's classification as such isn't wrong either.

There was that shitty future/tentacles one? I forget what it was.

Looking for a new anime. Shana just isn't holding my interest, I might watch it in my spare time.

I want interesting characters. Different.

Did you watch Denpa teki na Kanojo ? Just two episodes though, but the final one should be around the corner soon.

Had some great twists and really interesting characters.

Hmmmmm.

Oh, recently I looked at some new manga:

Hammer Session
Countrouble
Sankarea

All by Simple Scans. Not a bad lot, but so short =\

I want more.
Title: Re: Recommendations topic.
Post by: sazabi on October 06, 2010, 07:18:26 PM
countrouble is pretty funny

sankarea is pretty interesting, too bad theres not much chapters out
Title: Re: Recommendations topic.
Post by: NoSense on October 06, 2010, 08:10:29 PM
Sankarea is interessting, but the time until the next chapter comes out is so damn long :-/

The other two... going to put them on my "Look at it if I have time"-list...
Title: Re: Recommendations topic.
Post by: sazabi on October 06, 2010, 08:46:29 PM
hammer session just seems to be another "teacher disciplines a class of delinquents" type of plot
Title: Re: Recommendations topic.
Post by: Mana on October 06, 2010, 08:58:03 PM
Kinpachi-sensei has been doing that since 1979 and it didn't stop GTO from being awesome.

Goddamn I love GTO.

Anyway Sazabi there may be a lot of good teacher/delinquent ones. Gokusen. Angel Densetsu. GTO.
But this one kinda reminds me of Gamble Fish too. Besides, the chick is hot.

Oh and I love the art in Countrouble.

Blah, mangafox. I'll fornever use it.

Besides, I was just saying I don't really want to download it. I kinda don't like the art.

Might try Gantz.

This is probably the only place I haven't ranted about it. BEST FUCKING SHIT EVER.

If you like seinen.

Maybe I'll check it out later. Though I'm not sure I would like it. Watched a little of the anime and it didn't really catch my interest.

Because nothing is explained. But it's still fuck awesome. Just wait till Kei becomes Kei-chan. So badass.

"Just" picked up the manga again (read the first ~200 chapter some time ago (don't ask me when))
I have to admit, reading 300 Chapters in one go kind of takes its toll...

About explaining: It's not like the manga explains much, I mean even in chapter 300 you don't really know anything. Still has some nice action - if you don't mind 'a bit' of splatter.

And Kei-chan is so bad ass. I swear I've never seen a cooler hero than him.

(well I mean sure Ryougi Shiki, but she's a heroine, not hero and we all know they put more effort into making the females)

Sure he is. Without Kei the manga is somehow boring... dunno why, but I think the Osaka-Arc wasn't as good as the other parts.
Although after chapter 300 it becomes kind of a whole different scale... epic... although it leaves me at thinking "wtf did that guy smoke while drawing?"

Try Prunus Girl. It's still fairly short, it's not fully trap, but it's not fully straight either. You'll question your sexuality for sure.

That was the joke, and I can't reply to any of your PMs, because of a bug on the PM system. Kureha has a warning specifically about it, but it seems that no one reads it, so you'll have to wait for him to get back. Regarding your question, if you lurked more (http://kureha.no-ip.org/k1/index.php?topic=182.msg8905#msg8905), you would have your answer.
