It really depends in what you find interesting. This novel, like many other novels about being reborn in another world, starts slowly and tells people more about the world that the novel is taking place, how magic works, social status, discrimination,short-term goals, mid-term goals and long-term goals. So I believe it's very natural that a Tensei type novel, where the protagonist is a human or human-like race, to start slowly, is it easier on the reader if they learn about the world together with the protagonist. And usually babies and children, as much as they are "geniuses" because they have other life's memories, still have physiological limitations, and can't be in combat or stressful situations for prolonged time, or else they would just die. So almost every novel starts at a slower pace.

This novel eventually picks up a pace but never really goes like a full-blown battle novel. The protagonist believes that fighting is necessary, but he isn't a battle maniac, so if something can be solved without a fight, unless there's some reason he can't "not fight", there won't be a fight. This novel tends to have simultaneous happenings, making events that happened in different places, caused by different people to end up in a situation that Vandalieu ends up involved with, so the author takes his time making the situations by showing what's going on instead of just exploding sudden situations on the reader.

Most volumes have one, two or even three big happenings, where things get more hectic and it "speeds up", but usually is about the same as the first volume. The second volume really shows how the series go, so if you read volumes one and two and didn't like, I recommend you to stop reading.

Yeah it is quite slow but a good read indeed. The vol 7 has the most fights in my opinion

I will take back what I said the vol 1 and half of vol2 is dead slow but after the half of vol2 the novel got intersting. Thank god I didn't drop it.
