Kuroe

Has anyone seen the first 3 episodes of the Anime adaptation?
I was sure they cut a lot, but I thought that they added a little that wasn't in the novel. I think that the little they added actually took away from the show. I was dissapointed.
I've read 5 volumes and I'm enjoying it.

akiramkl

I agree, the LN is awesome, but the anime adaptation is garbage. Big disapointment. Not the first time that happen though.

traitorAIZEN

i've always imagined Mile with ika musume's voice actress. The one they chose for the anime seems a bit lacking in liveliness which also makes the jokes less funnier, imo.

the anime is a joke, they litteraly rewritted the first volume. It's not even an adaptation anymore, it's a fanfic

Kuroe

By cutting out so much they actually lessened the jokes. She want's to be Average, but she always does something OP. But they cut almos everything she had done. The battle with the A/B rankers, the time when she met the princes (omg I was so looking forward to seen her with wings and like an aura) I was gonna laugh! They cut the part in the training that she just coppied another student but the guy was the BEST so everyone was looking at her. Her actual background ADELLE and why she's a hunter.
All that from the top of my head, I dont remember too much cause im like binge reading Versatile Mage and im on vol7.
I guess some things can be made into flashbacks or memmories, but maybe not.

PD: the thing i Hate the most is that pokemon nano.

akiramkl

Like you said, they cut so much, AND they add so much too, that's totally paradoxal. If they don't like the story in the first place, why adapting it in anime..???? And another question, how the author can authorize that? It's like killing his/her baby damnit. On another note, the manga is very nice, it's the only thing healing me concerning that title.

Tegual

Personally unless otherwise shown, i am basically treating the anime as bonus content. I mean strictly speaking they really haven't shown us any real story except the graduation exam, and for some reason they added a villain? I guess because they didn't think that having a random B class party show up and lose would be interesting enough.

I do understand why they skipped the first half of the first book. I mean they probably only had 12 episodes and telling the entire of book 1 would have been 3 episodes of basically nothing but fluff, which is a shame. It may pick up but i'm not hopeful and at its current pace they look like they'll hit volume 4 so i guess they want to end on the dragon fight. But that means losing soooooo much of the story.

Kuroe

I take that aproach with almost every ln adaptation. If it has a novel, I try to read it first at least until what the anime is adapting (if i like it) then i can relax and finish it slowly.
But I take it like the extra, ohh it has Opening, music, movement and the voices and the designs, because sometimes things dont get illustrations, so I compare. Was it like I imagined? It just add value to the experience...generaly, unlike the Arifureta adaptation that I thought it was just bad.

well, I don't understand. The start of the novel tell us all the background info and the reason why Mile even exist in the first place !  Deleting all the "adele stuff" is like totally rewriting the story.

We know why Mile existed, while brief they did do a quick recap that Misato saved a little girl who would help the people of Earth and they also alluded to her story as Adele. It isn't like they deleted it. More like they had 3 choices.

Tell the entire story and try to get to and cut out even more of the story, tell the story of her as a hunter and hope it does well and tell the story as an ova or movie later which is popular atm, or they could come back to it later with a flashback/story time with her current party members when they finally meet her classmates. Given some of the half arsed attempts at adaptations where they tried to fit way to much in skipping a part of they story and coming back to it later can in fact work really well.

Like i said, it sucks that they skipped it, but you can already see they are cutting out a lot of story to get to somewhere, like the dragon fight which gives them a nice reason for more episodes. It also makes people want to go out and buy the novels to find out what happened before the anime, which unfortunately is one of the primary reasons for adaptations like these. Since it hasn't been a complete and utter mess like Arifureta and take the hopeful approach that they want to do it later and they just didn't want to butcher the story even more.

akiramkl

I agree it was a mess with Arifureta, but they just skyped a few things, they nearly change nothing, it's the sort of adaptation that can give the will to read the LN. BUT here, it's a total shame, that's not an adaptation anymore, so much change and add, it's like a total new story. The pokemon nana..... The Dragon Ball meme.... What the hell? People just want to enjoy some "totally normal/average little girl" story, nothing else. The LN make me laugh so hard, all the situation are enjoyable, the author have a really good imagination. But this adaptation, ****, it's a total let down. The best advise that can be done to people is to read the LN and avoid the anime.

Tegual

It depends on how it plays out from here and how much they change. Depending on how you look at it you might blame the 3 episode rule that a lot of people go by. You have to have some hook apparently or people won't watch your show or give it a chance. Make my Abilities Average suffers from a lack of enemies, especially early on. You have moments but nothing comes up until later and people have short attention spans.

Would i have preferred a faithful adaptation sure, but saying that an adaptation doesn't need to be the same as the source. The villain we had didn't really make much sense but she still fit the mold of the series, and while the enemy changed it was still the same setup - a B-class party with an A class leader.

Minor changes like Mile being surprised by the sale of the mini statues fits her character. Nano-chan having a visual along with the voice also makes sense for an anime, did they need him to be a cutesy mascot character, no but Nano-chan did say he could appear if Mile wanted him to, and having a disembodied voice would have been a little silly for a visual medium.

The dragon ball meme made no sense what-so-ever to me, that was out of place in my opinion but the training happened in the LN/WN so i say that it was a different sense of humor i guess.

Watching the episodes again
1. The introductions of Mavis, Pauline and Reina where new but fit their character so no problems their. Adele is mentioned, and Misato's death is marginally different but overall the same. The whole missing child thing is new but is used to show how ridiculously OP Mile is, which since we don't get to see the Adele goddess part needed to be somewhere. The episode is probably about 60% new additions.

2. The flat chest jokes remind me of slayers and kinda get on my nerves but the actual intro to the hunter school really isn't that different. Mile's intro after the hunter school  is basically the same. Their first quest is basically the same in the books, although it wasn't from the hunter's school in the novel. Apart from the terrible jokes, the training is pretty much the same (although Mavis gets her op sword early). The Stone Golems turn up early but it pretty much ends the same way as in the books. Overall the episode is actually pretty close to the books with just a little shuffling.

3. Story time was basically the same. The forming a party is basically the same. While the people faced at the graduation are different (although the actual fighters are pretty similar). Mavis' fight is basically the same. I would have liked to see Pauline call the enemy a boobless slut but i can see why they changed it, Pauline's fight is different but suits her sadistic side so its fine. Reina's fight is exactly thee same. Mile's fight starts off similar and obviously ends differently. Their whole super hero/power rangers/super sentai party intro is perfect and exactly from the book. Overall, the episode is actually pretty similar to the book with the exclusion of Mile's fight and the fact she won instead of getting Vail to do it.

The biggest thing missing was Vail and the excursion to kill goblins, but neither of which make a huge deal. If you look at it the second and third episodes actually follow quite closely with the novels with some mixing up of elements and a slightly different party in the graduation exam.

Pretty sure episode 4 will tell us how fast they intend to go. With the next real hunt being the rock lizards (this is when the rock golems where supposed to appear), if this is brushed over this in favor of the escort quest then they'll likely skip 1/2 of the second book.

Is it as funny as the book, no. Is it as good as the book, not yet (it may end up being we shall see). Do the changes detract from the story, who knows. At the moment comparing Arifureta to Make my Abilities Average, the first three episodes are actually in a very similar situation, a few changes and skipping but overall close enough to the source, but whereas Arifureta is usually serious the slice of life/comedy the Make my Abilities Average might just not come across as well on screen as they do on paper where peoples imagination make them.

And just how many cities worth of citizens are in that arena? Are they that bored? It's just an adventurer graduation fight but they made it look like a competition to decide the strongest in the continent. And that Nano isn't nano-like at all. It's just all so stupid.

Tegual

I mean i do agree about Nano-chan, he isn't the same.

I will have to disagree about the arena though, you have to remember (and it is explicitly stated later on during the third book when Mile/Mavis vs Father/Older Brother and Pauline's family) that the world has very little entertainment. I can see easily how many people would want to go, the arena is probably a little out of scale with the books but it isn't unbelievable that in a world with very little cheap entertainment you'd have people going to watch fights, even if they are just newbies fighting pros.

It would have made more sense though if the Mithril Roars Party had been the opponents though since they where famous, and likely to draw a crowd.
