Pardon my lame pun, I can't resist bad humor. Anyway, what was the first VN/dating sim/h-game you guys played?
I only started playing these things about a year and a half ago. But even before that, I was browsing empornium and looking under the sex games. There's usually not much interesting there but I ran across a torrent for Wanko to Kurasou with the then newly released English patch included. For reasons I'm not entirely sure of (not being particularly into dog/catgirls), I downloaded it and it sat on my HD for a while. Then as I was going through my HD deleting stuff I didn't use I was like "what the fuck is this 1GB iso hogging space for if I'm not gonna use it" so I used it (or maybe not, but that sounds plausible).
Anyway I installed it and mucked through getting it to work somehow and to my relief not all the sex was with loli dog girls (just most of it) and what's more, I actually really got in to the story besides. I couldn't pull myself away from it and I'm pretty sure I played it until like 4AM once I finally started getting into it. Looking back on it it's not that amazing or anything compared to some others I've played, but it was still a really cute, warm, and fuzzy story that tugged on my heart strings and made me cry a few times. Also, <3 Risa. In spite of Yuuichi's cold, asexual self the whole sequence where he realizes he can't live without her and they get engaged is one of my favorite parts in a VN ever.
You don't have to post a long winded story like this, though, I just like to talk (though if you have a story, do share it, along with your first VN of course).
I forgot... maybe True Love?
I guess that it was also True Love.
True Love looks....furui. Definately.
Ahh, I've yet to actually play any of the oldies. I have them, but they're so...old T_T
I might have to end up playing them before more OS's come out due to compatibility issues too. Sucks. Oh yes, like I said in the other thread: Bazooka Cafe.
Probably True Love.
Could also be Nocturnal Illusion... I can't remember which came first. Probably True Love since I was using Kazaa or whatever it's called at the time.

Your post inspired this thread tbh
True Love was fun, I wish there were more games like it.
yep it was true love and then , they should do a remake for it
Technically it would be Phoenix Wright or Hotel Dusk three or four years ago, however, if we're talking more 'pure' vn it would be Umineko.
And I kind of wish it was Kanon, which I played immediately after.
Bad memories for me >_< First thing I played was Nocturnal Illusion, and back than I didn't even know what it really was.
I played it still back at home on our family pc in the living room, than suddenly nude images showed up on the screen ... wasn't fun explaining that to my curious parents =P
I watch anime since '84..... play video games since '85....
But my first Vn was.... late 2008... Fate/Stay Night.
Speaking of which, I kinda wish my first VN was Tsukihime. I mean really nukige count, but if it was pure VNs with a story it'd be Tsukihime.
I can't believe how great it still is.
never quite got round to Tsukihime, but seeing as a remake may or may not be coming just going to see whats happens.
BTW heard a rumour there was a tsukihime anime...

The rumour is proven to be FALSE. It is the truth of God that there is no Tsukihime anime. How I wish they'd make one.
At least there's a manga out there for anybody hankering for more Tsukihime. Maybe they'll make an anime based off of that, since distilling a muti-route VN into one story is kind of awkward but the manga's done it pretty well.

ay, thought as much
Are you saying that Akiha's voice that I heard before reading Tsukihime was only on my head?

rofl, I didn't think I would actually meet one of those who would deny the existence of the Tsukihime anime... but indeed, it didn't quite capture the VN...
I guess Tsukihime is my first VN... that I knew was a VN... before Tsukihime, True Love and the like were just things I chanced upon.
cant deny something which doesnt exist :D
touche... but there's this little thing here... http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=2938 (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=2938)
if only it had taken another route...
Everyone knows that ANN is full of false information. That just proves it.
strange i keep getting a "404 not found" for that link :D
Link? what link?

It was '96 when I started with a half dozen of the old classics, downloaded from an alt.binaries newsgroup. The first one I played was Season of the Sakura. From then on I was kind of hooked, and it's just been worse as more and more games started coming out in english, lol. Still have many of them from one source or another.
(Now if only I could find copies of the Paradise Heights games and a couple others that still have the voice files intact)
season of the sakura was great. the fact it used characters from various popular titles of the time was pure genius
True Love for me too
then Seasons of the Sakura and some bunch of those old H games
....well Tsukihime is the first one we're I learned the term VN
Technically I think my firsts were galaxy angel and love hina sim date rpg on newgrounds... The very first one I dl'ed and played though was AIR T-T, my first english one was yume miru kusuri.
have not played the game but Air anime was depressing
Damn, lots of old schoolers itt
Yeahh =\
I feel pretty noob.
Bah, my memory's not the best, so i don't really know, which was my first VN...
Either X-Change 1, Little my Maid or Chain - The Lost Footsteps (or something like this it was called)
I am pretty sure mine was True Love. If I remember correctly I chance upon it well I was surf for some Hentai of my favorite anime at the time. Played it, feel in love with it, and spent endless nights downloading more of the oldies.
I played it still back at home on our family pc in the living room, than suddenly nude images showed up on the screen ... wasn't fun explaining that to my curious parents =P
I was caught playing Immoral Study by my brother and his friends. It ended up with them glued to the screen yell at me to choose this choice or that choice. lol.
Though my parents did found out I was playing it but they just shook there head. I didn't really get in trouble but they did allows blame me for crushing the computer countless times saying it's because of those games. :-\
Damn, lots of old schoolers itt
yes and no, in my case i was 12 at the time :-X
