If I recall correctly, the anime adapted up to the middle portion of volume 5. And btw, after reading vol. 6, I recommend to read 6.5 & 7.5 before volume 7. They're crucial volumes.

7.5 and 8.5 are two part story, but reading 6, 7 then 7.5, 8 and 8.5 works best for me IMO. You might think it'd be such a cliffhanger that after reading 7.5 you'd be reading 8. But for me it sets up proper foreshadowing of some events on what happen on 8.5 by making you confused.

So 6 -> 7 -> 7.5 -> 8 -> 8.5 is a go to for me.

uhmm that is the release order or if you mean 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 4 -> ... and so on. Of course reading it in release order is always the correct way.
